My Secrets to Sanity

This week I finished a women's series that I signed up for called Devotion, hosted and led by Alexis Lawton aka A Goddess Mama. With a group of about 8 women, we have been meeting every other week since January to sit in circle together, share the innermost workings of our lives, connect to spiritual guidance and get out of our heads and into our bodies. It's a little hard to describe the magic of what happens in these spaces and my friend, Alexis holds the most beautiful container for everyone. It's a bit mysterious and a bit witchy.

I've been going to A Goddess Mama circles since 2021 when I was pregnant with my son and it has become both my therapy and my church. One of the main rules of the circle is that what we say there, remains there. This creates a space where each person can share the real truth of what's going for them in their lives. And one of the most beautiful things about being in a group is hearing other people talk about having the same issues as you. I head home feeling less alone and more supported and connected.

I think we all need a designated safe space like this in our lives - where you go to pour your heart out and have others listen with compassion and acceptance. Not trying to fix you, but just empathizing and saying, “we're all in this together." In a world where we are often required to outwardly posture, whether for work or social life, I have found these sacred and safe circles to be deeply healing. We need to make space for our real truths to come out, whether its in circle, therapy, coaching, our intimate relationships or just our journals. As Alexis has been saying, we're not meant to do this alone.
