Getting Away for a Few Days
After a few days away last week with just my husband and myself, I am really struck by the impact of being a parent on our relationship and on our level of relaxation. Being responsible for little people’s lives is something I’ve gotten used to in my everyday life, but when it’s removed for a few days I felt
What is your why?
There is a concept in the mind-set coaching space called finding your “why.” When you distill everything you are doing down to why you are really doing it. What do you really, truly want? It's kind of like a mission statement. I have been thinking about my “why” for coaching
My latest rabbit hole
Every once in awhile I go down a rabbit hole of research and learning and my latest rabbit hole is something called Human Design. Some of you may have heard of human design and know volumes, and some may have never heard of it. From what I understand, it's a pretty
On Art and Motherhood
Last night I went to my mom's art show where her colorful, layered, nature-inspired oil paintings were hung. I've been to many of her beautiful art shows over the course of my life, to the point where I kind of took it for granted. Watching her draw with ease, the smell of turpentine, unfinished paintings stuffed in closets,
Why you might be a diamond in the rough
This week I am going to get a little academic. I want to talk about something I learned many years ago when I studied Tibetan Buddhism in India. It's something that has always stuck with me: Tibetan Buddhism has a concept called Buddha nature. There are tomes written on Buddha nature, but the idea is
What will the second half of your life look like?
I recently started reading a book called Young Forever by Dr. Mark Hyman. It's an admittedly click-baity title but it's mostly about the building blocks of longevity: eating whole (unprocessed) foods, exercise that includes resistance training and cardio, proper sleep, a sense of purpose and belonging AND actively de-stressing your body and mind through practices like yoga, breathwork and meditation.
My Secrets to Sanity
This week I finished a women's series that I signed up for called Devotion, hosted and led by Alexis Lawton aka A Goddess Mama. With a group of about 8 women, we have been meeting every other week since January to sit in circle together, share the innermost workings of our lives, connect to spiritual guidance and get out of
What Beyonce Says to My Soul
I have been thinking what to write about this week, and honestly at the top of my mind is Beyonce. Her new album, Cowboy Carter, that dropped on Good Friday is transcendently good and I've been listening to all 27 tracks over and over all week. It's a work of art that is bringing me deep joy.
My favorite thing about my late 30’s
I'm turning 37 in July and while I wouldn't say I'm too far along in years, I am certainly facing a barrage of online advertising for Botox and skincare routines. The fine lines are coming and jumping on a trampoline runs me the risk of throwing my back out for a few days. Our culture very much values youth and this message is emphasized to us everywhere we look.
What I learned from a kitchen reno
In January, I hired two guys to rip our kitchen out and begin a renovation project I'd been planning for over a year. Prior to demolition, I spent days taking all of the plates, bowls, cups, blenders, everything, out of the cupboards and stacking them up all over the dining room, creating a big cluttered mess.
