My latest rabbit hole

Every once in awhile I go down a rabbit hole of research and learning and my latest rabbit hole is something called Human Design. Some of you may have heard of human design and know volumes, and some may have never heard of it. From what I understand, it's a pretty vast system so I'm going to be oversimplifying. Most similar to astrological charts that use our time and place of birth, and somewhat similar to Meyers Briggs, Human Design is a way to categorize people into various personality types. Each type has specific ways that they work best, and ways that work best to manage their energy. For example, Projectors are good at seeing things from a high-level systemic point of view but run out of energy easily. Generators have tons of energy to go and go, and when lit up they energize the people around them.

I take these things with a grain of salt AND I find systems like this very helpful for getting clear on my own natural tendencies and ways of working (I'm a Projector). We all go through the school system and then enter the work force where we often need to fit one mold of getting work done and receiving information. When we recognize our own unique ways of working, it can be freeing and easier to use it to our advantage.

The spirit of Human Design is to know yourself. Know yourself and how you work. Do you focus best at 8 AM after your first few sips of coffee? Or at 10 PM when everything has died down for the day? Do you best retain information by reading it or hearing it? Do you tend to work in short bursts of energy and then need rest to be able to focus again? Do you need lots of alone time to recharge or do you need more social time to recharge? Do you make your best decisions by your first gut instinct or do you really need to sleep on it?

Like the coaching I am trained in, Human Design encourages us to know ourselves and how we're put together. To recognize our own strengths and weaknesses and get to know our own personal signs for when we're off track. As the ancient Greeks inscribed on the Temple of Apollo, “Know thyself.”
